Chaney's Internship at Byte Orbit

Tell us a bit about yourself and what brought you to Byte Orbit?

Hi everyone, I'm Chaney!

In our second year, Inscape partnered with Byte Orbit for a 48-hour design challenge. My teammate Rudolf and I won second place and secured our internship spots at Byte Orbit. We teamed up with two Cape Town Ideation students, and together, we became the four interns at Byte Orbit.

What were your initial impressions of Byte Orbit when you first started?

Walking into Byte Orbit for the first time was unlike anything I'd experienced. There was a sense of community that made the initial stress melt away. It felt like a place where I could grow, learn, and be the best version of myself. The emphasis on employee wellness was a pleasant surprise—everyone genuinely cares about each other's well-being. From day one, I felt welcomed, valued, and part of a team that truly makes a difference.

Describe the project you worked on and what you needed to achieve within the 6 weeks.

Our project involves redesigning a platform within Byte Orbit to create a seamless, cohesive system for HR, managers, and employees. The goal is to streamline HR processes, offering a user-friendly solution that automates tasks, fosters collaboration and prioritises employee well-being. It's about creating a positive workplace culture. Here, productivity and happiness go hand in hand.

How was your experience working with the Byte Orbit team?

Interning at Byte Orbit has been a top-notch experience! The team is incredible—supportive, welcoming, and always ready to help. It's a place where you learn not just about work but also about yourself and others. The company's culture truly reflects the focus on wellness and a positive mindset. Watching how the team handles tasks and communicates has been inspiring and something I'll always cherish.

What new skills have you gained during your internship?

As a product design intern, I've dived into various roles and tasks, gaining a well-rounded understanding of the entire process. I've honed my research skills, improved my UI design capabilities, and learned the importance of effective communication and feedback. Asking for help and listening to feedback have been game—changers. What you can learn when you truly engage with others is amazing.

Were there any challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?

One challenge I encountered was adapting to ongoing project changes. However, I saw this as an opportunity to learn and grow. By staying flexible and open to new experiences, I was able to quickly develop skills in areas outside my usual strengths, which helped me successfully overcome the challenges.

Do you have any memorable moments that stood out to you?

The most memorable moments were how welcoming everyone was and how they tried to know us beyond just work. Also, being entrusted with a project that holds significant value to the company was incredibly fulfilling. It showed the level of trust and belief Byte Orbit had in us, making the experience truly special.

Do you feel more prepared for your future career after this internship?

Absolutely, 100%! This internship has equipped me with invaluable skills and experiences. I'm excited and confident about starting my career.

What was the highlight of your internship at Byte Orbit?

The highlight of my internship was the sense of belonging and the amazing team spirit. Being part of a project that impacts the company and seeing our ideas come to life was incredibly rewarding. The connections I built with every employee and their support made it an unforgettable experience.
